Former Olympian Riley Janes joins Duncan Stingrays swim team as coach

Janes competed for Team Canada at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004

Olympian Riley Janes has joined the Duncan Swim team as the assistant head coach.

Janes competed for Team Canada at the World Aquatics Championships (2001, 2002, 2003) and the Olympic Games (2004).

The 44-year-old swam to ninth and 10th respectively in the 4x100m freestyle and medley relays at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and following his swimming career, he spent many years coaching in Victoria.

Janes is trained as an NCCP L2 coach with more than 10 yrs of coaching experience.

Originally from Saskatoon, his parents moved to Lake Cowichan about 10 years ago for retirement.  Since then he and his wife Dominique have been able to spend lots of time in the area.

"We love the idea of a small community and we're hoping to find a place with a yard for our dog, Odie," said Janes. After a few years of looking and applying my wife found a job with Ministry of Forestry. I had been keeping the Stingrays in the loop through it all and am super thankful that we were able to make it all work in the end. After 15+ years in Victoria the change and area really fits us well."

"To say that we're excited to have Riley on our staff is an understatement," said Duncan Stingrays head coach Leanne Sirup.
