A Campbell River chicken managed to find its way onto a truck headed for Nanaimo on Thursday morning, giving Nanaimo Animal Control a feathery surprise.

Sherman said they received a call this morning from a recycling depot. Staff there noticed the chicken running around and managed to catch the bird before calling animal control. The chicken had apparently hopped onto a transport truck headed from Campbell River earlier that morning.

Nanaimo Animal Control have been trying to spread the word about the chicken on social media, and are hoping the owner recognizes it and contacts them. They have also reached out to local animal rescue groups and shelters to spread the word. Sherman said that they will hang on to the hen for 96 hours before beginning an adoption process to have it re-homed.
The chicken was found on 10 street in Nanaimo.
Anyone who recognizes the chicken can contact Nanaimo Animal Control at 250-616-0233.
