After a four-hour road trip to see the Kamloops Broncos at Hilltop Stadium, the West Shore Rebels walked away from the first exchange of the season victorious on July 20.
The team came out of firing and scored on their first two offensive possessions, with running back Ryan Vincent picking up the first touchdown with a one-yard run into the end zone. Pressure from the defence led to a Broncos turnover and Rebels wide receiver Chris McLarty scored two plays later.
Quarterback Ethan Pickard threw for 358 yards, with five touchdowns to five different receivers, completing 16 passes. The defence held the Broncos to just 28 rushing yards and picked off quarterback Clark Snider four times.
The Broncos could not run the ball very effectively but found some success in the passing game, with Snider throwing for 272 yards.
The Rebels went into halftime with a score of 20-10, ultimately winning the game 43-27.
Next, the Rebels will return home for the season opener against the Prince George Kodiaks at Starlight Stadium in Langford, and the Broncos will move to visit the Valley Huskers in Chilliwack.
