The West Shore RCMP Community Policing Unit held the annual Spring Tea event through the Keep in Touch program in which officers and volunteers support elderly citizens who live on their own and do not have family or close friends to check on them regularly.
On June 6, the event was hosted by officers and civilian staff who served treats and played live music for the KiT participants.
"This is such an important program in our community. Getting to meet the elderly citizens our volunteers call on a daily basis puts a face behind the voice and also gives us a chance to connect in person. We had a wonderful time," said municipal employee with the West Shore RCMP community policing unit Heather Allan in a news release.
The KiT program involves RCMP community policing volunteers phoning elderly citizens who have signed up for this program daily, Monday through Friday, to see how they are doing so people can continue living independently in their own homes.
