The West Shore RCMP's Community and Indigenous Policing Unit is helping seniors in need this holiday season.
On Dec. 6, the unit, which brings culturally sensitive policing to Indigenous people and the communities they live in, purchased 52 cases of soup from View Royal Quality Foods to be delivered to Langford-Colwood Embrace B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ a local program that provides meals and support to low-income seniors in the West Shore.
The grocery store shared the cost of the soup so the donation would go further than originally planned.
"View Royal Quality Foods is a great community partner. A big thank you to manager Richard Sproule, assistant manager Shane Tarr and all of the store staff who helped us donate the 52 cases of Western Foods hearty soups," Cpl. Cole Brewer of the West Shore Community and Indigenous Policing Unit said in a news release.
This initiative is part of West Shore RCMP's Restorative Justice Program, which helps divert first-time offenders away from the Criminal Justice Program by way of community service.
"The offender repairs the harm they have done via combination of community service hours and restitution payments," West Shore RCMP added in a news release. "This yearB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s payments went to this charitable initiative."
