To help mitigate this risk locally, FireSmart BC B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ a provincial program that helps British Columbians increase neighbourhood resilience to wildfires B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ is offering View Royal homeowners free wildfire assessments this fall.
"During your assessment, trained specialists will provide a customized list of actions and tips to help reduce wildfire risks around your home," said View Royal on its website. "These practical recommendations can make a big difference in protecting your property."
During assessments, FireSmart BC experts will look for potential sources of fuel that can feed fires B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ leaves and debris left on balconies and decks, long grass, plants not resistant to fires, propane tanks and firewood positioned too close to homes B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ and suggest steps to remove them.
"Wildfires are growing in frequency, scale, and severity. In 2023, B.C. experienced 2,252 wildfires and 92 per cent of people believe that wildfires are one of the most important issues facing B.C.," View Royal added on its website. "Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility. When communities work together, it can make a big difference in reducing wildfire risk."
