As the weather cools down and the winter season is on the horizon, a South Island woman is looking to help some pets that may not be able to stay inside and avoid the cold.
Over December, Sam Storey will collect new and used dog jackets, sweaters and other dog clothing to support the pets of Greater Victoria's homeless population.
"I just woke up Sunday morning and walked to the grocery store and there was a homeless person sleeping in a doorway and they and their dog looked freezing and I realized there were so many resources for the humans out there, but as far as I could tell, not really [anything] for the dogs," Storey said.
Currently, hopeful donors can drop off dog clothing at Incendiary Tattoos at 890 Esquimalt Rd. and the Little Barbershop of Horrors at 657 Fort St. in downtown Victoria. Those unable to drop off the donations can email Storey at storeysam16@gmail.com to arrange a pick-up.
"It's a lot better for them to have proper fitting jackets instead of wearing human sweaters," she said. Though Storey is currently only planning to do the fundraiser during December, she mentioned she would like to run the campaign as long as possible.
