Starting this month, the Island District RCMP, which polices the majority of Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast communities, will be under the leadership of a new district commander.
Chief Supt. Bruce Singer has taken command of the district starting on Dec. 9, coming from his most recent role as officer in charge of the Lower Mainland District Integrated Teams where he was responsible for over 450 officers and employees delivering policing services to 33 communities, five municipal police organizations, and 13 RCMP detachments.

He has tackled complex policing challenges across municipal, provincial, and federal investigations, according to the release. He has led Major and Serious Crimes units, the Truth Verification Section, and the "E" Division Interview Team, where he saw extensive travel throughout Vancouver Island.
Singer, who will be based at the Island District HQ in Victoria, was awarded the QueenB次元官网网址檚 Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of Police Forces in 2018, and holds the RCMP Long Service Medal.
He expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the outgoing district commander, Chief Supt. Shawna Baher.
