Two Greater Victoria schools made it onto a list of best elementary schools in the province. 

SaanichB次元官网网址檚 St. Michaels University School (SMUS) and VictoriaB次元官网网址檚 Selkirk Montessori have been ranked among the top 20 elementary schools in B.C., according to the Fraser InstituteB次元官网网址檚 annual report. 

The 2024 rankings, based on 2023 Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) scores for Grade 4 and 6 students, placed the two institutions at the top after receiving a 10-out-of-10 rating.

Based on data from the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA), the ranking is determined through a standardized test given to all B.C. students in Grades 4 and 6 across the 951 schools sampled in the report.

Other schools receiving top scores include Collingwood in West Vancouver, Crofton House, St. GeorgeB次元官网网址檚, and Vancouver College. 

Oak BayB次元官网网址檚 Glenlyon Norfolk School ranked 56th with a score of 8.9. SaanichB次元官网网址檚 Maria Montessori Academy placed 74th, while St. MargaretB次元官网网址檚 School and St. PatrickB次元官网网址檚 Elementary, also in Saanich, tied for 78th place.

Ali Baggott, director of marketing and communications at SMUS, said the school is pleased to be among the top-ranked institutions. However, she emphasized that rankings often provide a single perspective and should not be the sole factor in choosing a school.
