Christmas is set to be a blustery one for Vancouver Island with a wind warning kicking things off Monday (Dec. 23) as blustery weather is set to continue through the week.
Monday, a low pressure centre off the coast of B.C. will bring strong winds beginning in the afternoon, according to Environment Canada.
The winds, expected to be 70 km/h gusting to 100, will intensify through the evening and impact western and northern Vancouver Island. Late in the evening the winds will increase through the Strait of Georgia and the Strait of Juan de Fuca and impact east Vancouver Island including Greater Victoria and areas near the water around Metro Vancouver.
The weather moves out Tuesday, with a powerful frontal system set to arrive on the south coast and Vancouver Island early Wednesday (Dec. 25) morning. Very strong winds and heavy rain are expected to last until late in the evening.
Predictions for Boxing Day show a weaker low-pressure system set to approach Vancouver Island late in the day spreading strong winds across Vancouver Island and the south coast overnight.
Weather warnings will be issued if necessary as confidence in the storm tracks and impacts grows, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement.
