B次元官网网址淚n the Sooke School District, middle and secondary schools have enforced guidelines restricting the use of cellphones during class time for several years,B次元官网网址� a spokesperson for SD 62 said in a statement. B次元官网网址淕iven that cellphone use during class is already restricted for students in grades 6 through 12, we do not anticipate a significant adjustment for many of our students and families.B次元官网网址�

The statement was issued in response to questions arising from Premier David EbyB次元官网网址檚 Jan. 26 announcement that called for restrictions on cellphones during instructional time, and called on individual school districts to develop their own policies.

The Sooke School District said it will ensure its school policies on cellphones are in alignment with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education and Child Care before the start of the 2024/25 school year.

The BC Ministry of Attorney General, in partnership with the Civil Resolution Tribunal, also brought in two new services on Jan. 29 through the Intimate Images Protection Act.

These services aim to help people who have had their intimate images shared without their consent quickly access self-help tools to diagnose their legal issues, get information about their rights and connect to supports.

Under the new act, The Civil Resolution Tribunal can order an individual to pay fines up to $500 per day for sharing personal images without consent, or as much as $5,000 per day if it is a website, for not following an order to stop sharing.
