West Shore RCMP will be conducting regular school zone patrols in the coming weeks to ensure motorists are adhering to the rules of the road.
Beyond obeying all speed limit signage, the district and RCMP are reminding motorists to obey the directions of crossing guards and stop when approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing, regardless of whether you are approaching from the front or the rear of the bus, and do not pass until the lights are switched off.
Motorists are also encouraged to be patient when travelling around schools and to be extra aware of their surroundings as many students will still be learning their new travel routes to school and how to be safe pedestrians.
