Sidney Museum has recorded an increase in visitor numbers in 2024.

It took a few years, but Sidney Museum attendance has jumped to its highest level since 2020.

The museum saw 21,710 visitors last year, which is at least 8,000 more than the previous year.

According to executive director Michael Goodchild, this was an encouraging figure B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ local audiences represented 78 per cent of the total number of visitors.

"Over 17,000 of last year's visitors were from the Saanich Peninsula and Victoria. This shows that community interest and support for the museum remains stronger than ever and if anything, is growing," Goodchild said.

The most popular shows for the year were the exhibit that started on Dec. 20 (ends March 30),  travelling exhibition which ran from April to July andwhich ran from August through November.

According to Goodchild, the museum will only be considering one "significant" exhibit in 2025.

"We're opting for a single major featured exhibit, 'Health in Space: Daring to Explore'. This is from the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and we're hoping to run this from May through November."

Selecting one long-running exhibit, according to the director, is in line with one of their main objectives this year, which is to create a plan for the permanent galleries of the museum to be revitalized in a very deliberate way in 2026.

The museum intends to maintain its 'donation by admission' entry, allowing people to visit and pay what they can.

"I have no interest in changing it. As long as we can afford to be admission by donation, we will continue to be," Goodchild said.
