Local non-profit The Mustard Seed, which has helped feed Victoria's hungry since 1975, is set to serve Christmas dinner to 400 residents this year at the Bay Street Armoury. 

"Free of charge and with open doors, this festive gathering is one of the ways The Mustard Seed, alongside community support, strives to brighten the season for many individuals and families who rely on our services year-round," the organization said in a news release.

The event will take place on Nov. 30, between noon and 3 p.m.

Local acts Ladies of Gospel, Peter Bourne, the Dr. Bones Band and the Band of the 5th (B.C.) Field Regiment will perform live. The event will also boast family-friendly activities, including a kids' craft table, gingerbread cookie decorating and exciting prize draws. Kris Kringle may even make an appearance.

"This event would not be possible without the generosity of over 70 dedicated volunteers and numerous local businesses, which have donated their time, goods, and services to make this celebration a reality," the non-profit said in the same news release. "Their contributions allow us to continue addressing food security needs, providing critical support, and spreading warmth and cheer to the community."

The Mustard Seed helps Victorians before and after Christmas, too. It serves 1,500 meals at its food bank and distributes over 12,000 pounds of donated grub to 75 local social service agencies daily.
