South Island residents should batten the hatches for what seems to be the weekly fall wind warning.

Greater Victoria is among the areas set to be battered by strong winds Tuesday (Nov. 12) evening, abating the next morning, according to Environment and Climate change Canada.

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected for the southern and eastern parts of Vancouver Island, Metro Vancouver, the southern Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast.

The southeast winds near 70 km/h could see gusts to 100 km/h.

High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. A similar storm at the start of November saw swatches of power outages due to trees and limbs breaking, with 290,000 BC Hydro customers impacted across southern B.C. Nearly 4,000 people woke without power in Greater Victoria on the morning of Nov. 5.

During that storm, Environment and Climate Change Canada recorded a wind gust of 107 km/h at Gonzales Point in Victoria, 102 km/h at Trial Island; Victoria Harbour saw gusts to 100 km/h and Esquimalt Harbour 87 km/h.

Drivers should also be prepared to adjust to changing road conditions due to high winds.
