A group of Colquitz Middle School students say they were approached by a stranger who invited them into their vehicle Thursday morning (Jan. 16), prompting a reminder from Saanich police

The students did not enter the vehicle and quickly reported the incident to Colquitz staff who contacted the police. Police investigators were able to locate the vehicle swiftly and spoke with the driver, who was not arrested.

The investigation is currently ongoing. 

Saanich police have issued a list of safety tips in response, reminding parents and students to report suspicious or alarming activity. 

• Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something suspicious, notify a trusted adult.
• Never go somewhere with a stranger. If a stranger ever approaches and offers a ride or treats (like candy or toys) or asks for help with a task (like finding a lost dog), step away, yell B次元官网网址淣o!B次元官网网址� and leave the area immediately. Always notify a parent or another trusted adult of what happened right away.
• Trust your instincts and your feelings. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable or if you feel like somethingB次元官网网址檚 just not right, walk away immediately and notify a trusted adult.
• Plan your route to and from school. Stick to well-lit main roads and avoid secluded areas.
• Walk in groups when possible.
• Communicate with family or friends where you are going and when you will be back, informing them if you will be delayed or if plans change.
