The District of Saanich is exploring opportunities for partnerships with community organizations to increase Extreme Weather Response (EWR) shelter spaces for the unhoused. 

Broadview United Church (3703 St. AidanB次元官网网址檚 St.) has recently expressed interest in setting up and managing an EWR shelter at its facility with the municipalityB次元官网网址檚 help and support from BC Housing. Staff are also in discussions with the Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC) to explore prospects for expanding shelter capacities at their site.

B次元官网网址淲e are continuing the proactive work with our partners to address the pressing need for shelter spaces in Saanich and the region,B次元官网网址� said Mayor Dean Murdock in a news release.

Working with community organizations is following a model that has been successful in other B.C. municipalities that allows for the quick deployment of EWR services by combining non-profit service delivery with the use of community buildings that are better equipped to provide services than traditional municipal facilities.
