Police watchdog called after suspect flees VicPD, into traffic

Suspect flees on foot, suffers non-life threatening injuries, say police

The provincial police watchdog agency was called after a suspect was hit by a vehicle while fleeing police in Victoria Friday evening.

The incident unfolded after VicPD officers were called about a theft in progress in the 600-block of Gorge Road on Oct. 11 just after 3:30 p.m., Victoria police said on social media.

Officers located a suspect and attempted to arrest the individual, who police say ran into vehicle traffic.

The person was hit by a vehicle and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident was reported to the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., the civilian agency that investigates incidents of death or serious harm as a result of interactions with police.

The incident saw roads closed in the Gorge and Jutland roads area into the evening.
