Oak Bay police hit teen driver with excessive speed, open cannabis tickets

Tickets total nearly $1,000, friend's parent's vehicle impounded for 7 days

A teen faced a triple ticket situation after police nabbed them speeding on Oak Bay streets with friends and cannabis in the car B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ all of which is not allowed on a learnerB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s licence.

Oak Bay police stopped the driver on June 14 shortly before 2 a.m. on Foul Bay Road near Lansdowne Road.

An officers saw a vehicle approaching extremely fast and used a speed device to clock it at 121 km/h in a 60 zone.

Once stopped, the officer noted an open container of cannabis in the vehicle and three other occupants.

The 16-year-old driver received tickets for excessive speed, driving contrary to restrictions for the passengers, operating a vehicle with cannabis and failure to display their B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·˜LB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ on the vehicle.

The tickets totalled nearly $1,000 and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

Police spoke to the registered owner, whose son was in the vehicle, but not driving.
