Following the City of Victoria buying Hermann's Jazz Club on View Street, a new downtown, live music space is set to open in early 2025 in the former Hermann's Upstairs.
B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·œWe have a deep love for live music and appreciation for musicians. True live music venues have been slowly disappearing in our city, so we decided to do something about it," said Al Smith, a co-founder of the upcoming venue called The Coda, which will be at 751 View Street.
Smith, a long time entrepreneur, business mentor, strategist, CEO, and photographer, and his partner Christina Morrison, a semi-professional musician, say their reputation, community building experience, understanding of business, and deep love for music will help to make a "world class music venue."
B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·œIt will be great to have another venue in Victoria run by good people who really understand how to present live music B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ who put the music and the musicians first. The Victoria Jazz Society is very excited to have The Coda as a venue for the 2025 TD Victoria International JazzFest.," noted Darryl Mar, executive and artistic director of the Victoria Jazz Society, in a news release.
They say bands and promotors have already been reaching out to reserve dates in 2025.
The city bought the property, which also houses Hermann's Jazz Club, in March. They paid $3.95 million for the building and business assets of HermannB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s and View Street Social. Morrison and Smith say they will be leasing the space from the city.
