Drivers can get three new perspectives of traffic on the West Shore as part of the 2024 infrastructure upgrades in the community.
The trio of images where Highway 14 meets West Shore Parkway show north, west and east views as part of the Highway 14 corridor improvements this year between Langford and Sooke.
TheyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™re among 22 new cameras added to DriveBC in 2024, showing 37 more views to help motorists travel more safely, especially during winter, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
DriveBC is a province-run online portal for checking traffic and weather conditions when planning trips. It now features a network of 503 cameras showing 1,037 views of current road conditions.
Where technically feasible, ministry crews strategically locate the webcams throughout B.C. based on needs identified by residents, contractors or weather experts.
Other expansions include Highway 1 in Langley and Paulson Summit on Highway 3. That camera shares the site with new weather sensors, both off-grid because there are no networks or power nearby. The system uses solar power and transmits the weather data and camera images by satellite.
