Commuters need to watch for water works on Metchosin Road now through the end of November.
The district warns water main construction will be ongoing along the east side of Metchosin Road from Royal Commons to Ryder Hesjedal Way.
Daily work is expected during installation of a new hydrant to support fire safety at the Beachlands, and other services will be installed at the same time.
With most of the work along the shoulder or on private land, traffic control will be on site only when necessary. The plan is to maintain two-way traffic as often as possible with some limited single-lane alternating traffic when necessary. For the waterworks that cross Metchosin Road, single-lane alternating traffic will be implemented over a three-day period.
All emergency vehicles will have priority access. For pedestrians, the main work occurs on the east side of the road where there is no existing sidewalk. During the expected short disruption on the west side of Metchosin Road, traffic control personnel will be on site to assist pedestrians.
Because the work impacts the northbound bike lane, cyclists will have the option to share the travel lane, take the lane, or dismount their bicycles and proceed as pedestrians.
Work is expected daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. now through Nov. 30.
