One man is in hospital and another in custody following a weekend stabbing in Port Alberni.
Police were called to a building in the 3000-block of Fourth Avenue at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 and found an adult male suffering from several stab wounds. Police with Port Alberni RCMP ended up transporting the victim to hospital because BC Ambulance Service (BC EHS) paramedics were busy on other calls.
A police officer carried the victim out of the two-storey building and rode in the back seat while attempting to keep pressure on the victim's wounds, Port Alberni RCMP media liaison Const. Beth O'Connor related.
The unidentified male was stabilized at West Coast General Hospital before being transported out of the community for additional medical treatment. He remains in critical condition, according to O'Connor. Meanwhile, RCMP located and arrested the suspect for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The victim and suspect are known to each other, according to RCMP.
Additional police resources were called in to assist with the investigation resulting in the execution of a search warrant. The suspect was held in police custody to await a bail hearing on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024.
"Our members made critical decisions and acted swiftly to get the victim the life saving medical attention he needed." said RCMP Insp. Kim Bruce.
As of Monday, the suspect remained in police custody for further court process.
