A food drive of epic proportions rolls through Greater Victoria streets Saturday (Dec. 7) to support area food banks this holiday season.
Island Equipment Owners Association (IEOA) truck parade and food drive sees rigs bedecked in lights tour the community collecting much-needed food and cash donations.
The route begins at the Breakwater District at 5 p.m. cruising along Dallas Road, then Fairfield and Beach Drive, landing in Oak Bay around 6 p.m. The parade continues down Yates Street to Douglas Street taking Highway 1 until Watkiss Way, then travels along Burnside Road W. to Highway 1A, followed by Goldstream Avenue to Veterans Memorial Parkway to Latoria. The convoy ends at Ryder Hesjedal Way around 8 p.m.
Those looking to plan ahead can drop off donations through Dec. 6 at Aryze Developments at 1839 Fairfield Rd., Capital Iron in Victoria and Langford, Sunbelt Rental locations in Victoria, Langford and Sidney, and WestCoast Appliance Gallery on Nanaimo St.
The night of the event, donations can be dropped off along the route at Aryze, Mustard Seed at Breakwater Cafe on Dallas Road, Oak Bay Municipal Hall, Sands Funeral Home with Emery Electric at 317 Goldstream Ave., Langford Light Up at Veterans Memorial Park, Rona Langford at 850 Langford Pkwy, and Christmas in Colwood at the Royal Bay Commons.
Christmas in Colwood runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with treats, music and family fun. The event will also collect food bank donations.
Langford Light Up celebrates in two locations on the same night. At Langford Station, 720 Station Ave., residents can enjoy performances by PACE Musical Theatre, Ablaze Choir, Pacific Edge Chorus, a balloon artist, food trucks, a holiday market, local retailers and more from 3 to 7 p.m.
Festivities in Veterans Memorial Park run from 5 to 8 p.m. including a holiday market, musical performances by Mostly Motown Christmas and Westshore Community Band, cookie decorating, ice carving, free hot dogs and hot chocolate (while supplies last), and the annual Light Up display.
Oak Bay Village welcomes the Island Equipment Owners Association Truck Parade & Food Drive with festivities starting at 5 p.m. Residents can enjoy music and treats and drop off food and cash donations in support of The Rainbow Kitchen on the front lawn of municipal hall, 2167 Oak Bay Ave.
Volunteers will pick up food from the crowd awaiting the 80 lighted trucks B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ expected to arrive around 6 p.m. B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ between Foul Bay Road and Monterey Avenue.
