Langford residents are being encouraged to have their say on the future of the city and how the needs of a potential population of 100,000 can be met.

In preparation for this growth, the City of Langford has been working on refreshing its official community plan (OCP). The plan addresses major issues such as climate change, housing affordability, social equity, public health and increasing infrastructure costs.

The city has launched 'phase two' of its public engagement exercise, after gathering a list of the community's "initially preferred options", which includes growth of the city through urban infill, rather than sprawl.

Locals can take part in the survey up until Nov. 20. Responses will help the city draft the revised version of the OCP, which will be shared in 'phase three'.

To support the next phase of the OCP refresh, the city is hosting an open house at Ruth King Elementary School gymnasium on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The open house will offer residents the opportunity to learn more, provide input and pose questions to city planning staff. To keep children entertained while the grown-ups talk about Langford's future, there will be activities, crafts and trick-or-treat stations for children to enjoy.
