Sooke residents have a new chance to get dirty this March, along with the opportunity to learn while doing it.  

The Plan & Prepare Your Garden series will kick off in Sooke on Thursday, March 13, with its first workshop. The series is designed to enhance community resiliency and food security by giving Sooke residents a green thumb.  

"Building a resilient and food-secure community starts with empowering residents with the knowledge and skills to grow their own food," says Christina Moog, District of Sooke manager of communications and community relations. 

"Beyond learning essential gardening techniques, this workshop provides a welcoming space for participants to connect with neighbours, share experiences, and build valuable community relationships."

The interactive workshops are a collaboration between The District of Sooke, the Vancouver Island Regional Library and the Compost Education Centre.

The first workshop covers several topics including understanding site conditions, planning and investment, selecting crops, and year-round growing.  

The Plan & Prepare Your Garden workshops are open to gardeners of any skill level and will be held Thursday, March 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event is free but requires .
