Over the past two weeks, Esquimalt Fire Rescue Services firefighters responded to two separate emergency situations where they managed to reunite local residents with their pets.
During a structure fire on Saunders Street on Feb. 4, firefighters rescued a dog suffering from smoke inhalation. Using a specialized K-9 artificial respiration and CPR, the team ensured the dog B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ Cody B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ received immediate care before being transported to a veterinarian.
Cody has since returned home and is doing well, according to the Township of Esquimalt.

On Friday, Feb. 21, firefighters responded to a call regarding Cassie, a six-year-old dog who had fallen off a walkway into the "cold waters of the Gorge" and became trapped.
"Firefighters used a ladder to lower a team member who safely secured Cassie and carried her up the steep bank. Thermal blankets were provided to address signs of hypothermia, and Cassie was successfully reunited with her owner," noted the release.
Though Cassie was reportedly shaken and chilled, she was unharmed.
