The Capital Regional District (CRD) and Island Health have issued a boil water advisory affecting about 70 homes in the Wilderness Mountain area near Matheson Lake in East Sooke.

Water quality may have been compromised due to high turbidity water from Wilfred Reservoir. The advisory is in effect until flushing and water samples indicate the water quality no longer poses a risk to public health.

The boil water advisory will be lifted once Island Health confirms the safety of the drinking water and issues an B次元官网网址渁ll clearB次元官网网址 notice to those affected.

This is the third advisory issued for the area since 2019.

All tap water used for consumption, cooking, or hygiene should be boiled during a boil water advisory. Bottled water is an alternative.

Adults, teens, and older children can still use the water to wash, bathe, or shower, but avoid swallowing. Toddlers and infants should be sponge bathed, and infant formulas should be prepared using boiled tap water.

Severely immuno-compromised individuals are advised to always boil their tap water for any use.

Fill a pot or kettle with tap water and bring it to a rolling boil for one minute before use during the advisory.

Only water fitration devices designed to disinfect the water, such as a UV light unit, may be used as an alternative to boiling.

Dishwashers with a hot setting can safely disinfects dishes. If your dishwasher does not have a hot setting, soak dishes for one minute in a solution of 30 ml of bleach mixed with 13.5 litres of lukewarm water and let them air dry.

You can continue doing laundry without using boiled water.

The advisory will be lifted after corrective actions, system flushing, satisfactory bacteriological results from two consecutive sets of samples taken at least 24 hours apart, and confirmation by the chief medical health officer that there is no health hazard.
