Fort Rodd Hill is hosting a solstice picnic this Thursday, June 21.
Residents can bring their own picnic or purchase food from the vendors on location for the evening and take in the sunset on the longest day of the year with performers and storytellers that will bring to life the traditions and lore of solstice.
There are also special events at the solstice celebration, such as yoga from 6:30 t0 7:30 p.m., an open jam session from 6 to 9 p.m., in which people can bring their own instruments, kids crafts from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and a history lesson on summer solstice from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
This is the first of many new evening events offered by Parks Canada this summer at the Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic sites. Other upcoming evenings include learn-to camp, camp-in movie and a star gaze night. The annual favourite lantern tour will also be happening at the site this summer.
The cost is $3.90 per adult, $3.40 for seniors and free for children 17 and under. Visitors can start their picnic any time after 6 p.m.
