The region of Malahat is hosting a 'Family Fishing Weekend' event in celebration of FatherB次元官网网址檚 Day, held on the Victoria Fish and Game Protective Association ranch on Saturday, June 15.
The event offers free trout fishing for novice and experienced anglers with optional hands-on instruction, with reels and tackle included. All guests are encouraged to use the loaned free rods and fly-tying clinics provided. While the fishing is free, license requirements for both fresh and salt water fishing are waived to increase guest accessibility. All events have been made wheelchair inclusive.
Organizers intend to establish family fishing as a common tradition for Cowichan locals to attend. Jessica Greinke, FreshwaterB次元官网网址檚 marketing and communications coordinator, states that it is common for the event to bring multiple generations together.
The Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation and the Pacific Salmon Foundation partnering with B.C. Wildlife Federation funds and supports the event to create a space where families can take part in cost-free activities, considering the added pressure of recent increasing living costs of Vancouver Island.
B次元官网网址淯ltimately, itB次元官网网址檚 a fun weekend that doesnB次元官网网址檛 have to be expensive,B次元官网网址 says Jenna Merth, outreach coordinator, Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C.
Victoria Fish and Game Protective Association will hold its fishing event on Saturday 15, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Six other communities in Vancouver Island are having their own events over the FatherB次元官网网址檚 Day weekend, June 14 - 16 in 2024. After FatherB次元官网网址檚 Day, Learn to Fish and Rod Loan programs will be offered in municipal and provincial parks in the summer. Exact locations and dates of events are listed on the Freshwater Fisheries Society Programs page.
While Canadian residents are permitted to fish license free, some requirements remain in effect. Details are posted on the BC Family Fishing and Fisheries and Oceans websites.
The family friendly occasion is organized by Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C., the date marks the 25th anniversary of the tradition.
