The president of the church announced it will be one of 15 new temples worldwide

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced plans to build a temple in Victoria, the second LDS temple in B.C. and the 11th in Canada

On Sunday, April 7, LDS president Russell Nelson made the announcement at the churchB次元官网网址檚 annual general conference in Utah to build 15 new temples worldwide, including a temple in Victoria.

B次元官网网址淭emples are places of peace and tranquility,B次元官网网址� John Borrows, chair of the Victoria Multifaith Society and a member of the church, said in a news release. B次元官网网址淭he Victoria British Columbia TempleB次元官网网址檚 serenity and beauty will enhance VictoriaB次元官网网址檚 rich and varied heritage of faith and worship.B次元官网网址�

According to the release, the Latter-day Daints consider temples to be the B次元官网网址渉ouse of the lordB次元官网网址� and they are the most sacred places of worship.

A location for the temple has yet to be announced.

The first temple in B.C. was built in Langley and was dedicated in 2010. Other Canadian temples are in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto and Halifax.

The church has two stakes B次元官网网址� the equivilent of a diocese B次元官网网址� on Vancouver Island, one in Nanaimo and one in Greater Victoria, which has about 2,000 members.
