B.C. Conservative candidate Mike Harris is running in Langford-Highlands in the upcoming provincial election B次元官网网址渢o make Langford an even better communityB次元官网网址.
The longtime real estate agent chose not to speak with Black Press Media for this profile, and instead supplied a newsletter he released earlier this month detailing his campaign objectives.
In his newsletter, Harris said if elected, he plans to advocate for more walk-in clinics and schools in Langford to accommodate the region's growing population. He also sees a need to address the homeless encampments and open drug use there that he claims can negatively affect children.
"Homeless encampments are becoming a safety concern for parents who allow their children to walk to and from school. The concern of inhalation of narcotics and the debris left over from these encampments is leaving taxpayers footing the bill," Harris said in his newsletter. "A B.C. Conservative government will end the safe supply and decriminalization of hard drugs and act to get them off our streets and away from our kids. We will encourage rehabilitation facilities and involuntary rehabilitation."
This isn't Harris' first foray into politics. For two years, he has been B.C. Conservatives' regional director for Vancouver Island South, and he lost to B.C. NDP MLA Ravi Parmar in the 2023 Langford/Juan de Fuca provincial byelection.
Harris also claims he can improve the lives of Langford-Highlands residents, and that's what spurred his second MLA bid.
"Langford was once a town where young families came and thrived," he said. "The town has become too expensive for many families. I plan to help our leader John Rustad bring forward policy that will overhaul building codes and permit wait times to reduce costs that will directly impact affordability in Langford."
B次元官网网址淚 want our children to grow up in safe communities," the candidate added. "I want parents to raise their children how they see fit and I want them to be able to do it while maintaining an affordable cost of living."
