A wind warning is in effect starting Friday, Oct. 25., that may cause tree branches to break; power outages are possible.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says strong winds are expected to hit Greater Victoria, Southern Gulf Islands and East Vancouver Island - Nanoose Bay to Campbell River, heading into the weekend.

The strongest winds will begin near midnight and end by early Saturday morning with peak wind gusts of 90 km/h expected over exposed coastal locations.

The national weather agency says a frontal system caused by the clash of opposing warm and cold air masses will move across the South Coast tonight and bring a period of brief, but strong, gusty winds to the region.

Metro Vancouver should see the strongest winds over areas near Boundary Bay.
