The Victoria Foundation will distribute $681,656 to 21 recipients to support social, cultural, and legal infrastructure for Indigenous communities in the capital region. 

Funding is provided through the Indigenous Priorities Fund B次元官网网址� a pilot program developed by the Indigenous Granting Advisory B次元官网网址� composed of Indigenous members from the region.

The fund prioritizes support for local Nations and Indigenous-led organizations based on community-identified needs. 

Among recipients, Esquimalt Nation will use $50,000 to hire an education manager to support students and families. TB次元官网网址橲ou-ke Nation will purchase a van with its $50,000 grant to support youth programs and transportation needs.

Victoria Foundation CEO Sandra Richardson said the grants are selected through an Indigenous-led process to support the diverse values within these communities.

Tamara Napoleon, board chair and advisory member, noted that the programB次元官网网址檚 success has led to increased funding and greater community engagement. Two open houses were held at Pauquachin Hall and on Songhees and Esquimalt lands.

Funding comes from the FoundationB次元官网网址檚 Community Action Funds, discretionary funds, and donor contributions. Donations can be made online or through the FoundationB次元官网网址檚 donor services team.
