Quick response and mutual aid shut down a fast-moving grass fire in Otter Point Wednesday (July 24).

Crews from Otter Point, Sooke, East Sooke and Metchosin fire departments kept the afternoon grass fire down to one acre, limiting spread under tinder dry conditions.

B次元官网网址淚t took the quick response from the whole team to bring this fire under control,B次元官网网址� Otter Point Fire Department said in a social media post thanking fellow first responders.

The fire danger rating in the area is extreme, meaning forest fuels and the fire risk are serious. New fires can start easily, spread rapidly, and pose a significant challenge to fire suppression efforts.

A wildfire is currently blazing through forest to the northeast of Otter Point. The Old Man Lake fire, north of Sooke, was discovered July 22, and had since grown to 169 hectares as of Wednesday evening.

That wildfire remains listed by the BC Wildfire Service as out of control.
