LETTER: Festival opens eyes to Indigenous culture

LETTER: Festival opens eyes to Indigenous culture

A huge heartfelt thank you to the Indigenous elders/knowledge keepers Linda, Henry, Laura, Brianne and Erin for generously sharing their wisdom, skills and patience in teaching us how to make a woven cedar bracelet, a cedar rose, and a deerskin drum.
LETTER: ChurchillBԪַs reminder of power and politics

LETTER: ChurchillBԪַs reminder of power and politics

Now that election season will soon be here, I am reminded of one of Winston ChurchillBԪַs great quotes when he said, BԪַPower is a drug. Who tried it at least once is poisoned forever.BԪַ
LETTER: Reasons to ban off-leash dogs on beach donBԪַt hold water

LETTER: Reasons to ban off-leash dogs on beach donBԪַt hold water

Your article BԪַUnleashing the HoundsBԪַ gives a good account of the current dispute around off-leash dogs. One aspect though that I think needs consideration is the inconsistency of many of the spurious arguments put forward.

LETTER: Time to douse wood-burning fireplaces

Even more unpleasant and more dangerous to our health than gas-powered gardening tools are the air pollutants from burning wood which are known to cause and aggravate heart and lung disease.

LETTER: Oak Bay action on reconciliation slow in coming

ItBԪַs been more than three months since Oak Bay council unanimously passed a motion to create a council-community task force on reconciliation; to date no task force has been created.
LETTER: Rename Triangle Green in honour of the Queen

LETTER: Rename Triangle Green in honour of the Queen

The City of Victoria has a grand opportunity to commemorate the QueenBԪַs Platinum Jubilee, the 70 years of reign, by renaming the Triangle Green near the Johnson Street Bridge to the Platinum Jubilee Garden.
LETTER: Raising the political bar

LETTER: Raising the political bar

Re: Elizabeth May sponsors petition advocating public nudity (May 19). My sympathies go out to Ms. May and all of her supporters. Whereas at one point, Ms. May may have had the best intentions to raise the political bar, it must now take a lot of squirming to keep under a bar that has fallen so stiflingly low.
LETTER: Choose the best candidate regardless of residence

LETTER: Choose the best candidate regardless of residence

I disagree with the letter from Trevor Amon about his position on running for mayor in a city where you are not a resident.
LETTER: Airport noise reaching new heights

LETTER: Airport noise reaching new heights

I read the article by Wolfgang Depner entitled BԪַReturn to office may have drowned out airport noise complaintsBԪַ with great interest. It is nice to see that the number of complaints is down, but I doubt that the noise has been BԪַdrowned out.BԪַ I was struck by the stress on complaints while nothing much was said about overall noise abatement except that the BԪַauthoritiesBԪַ did nothing about the present complaints as they were deemed a part of BԪַnormal airport operations.BԪַ
LETTER: Museum rebuild not a priority

LETTER: Museum rebuild not a priority

This is the worst time ever to announce a museum rebuild. This expense should not be a priority for so many reasons.
