The Nanaimo NightOwls didn't just participate in their first-ever all-star game, they starred among stars.
Owls first baseman Wylie Waters was chosen all-star game MVP as he and three teammates represented the North Division at the West Coast League All-Star Game on July 17 in Bellingham.
The North won the game 3-2, scoring the winning run in a close play at the plate after a two-out, bases-loaded grounder in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Waters garnered MVP honours for reaching base three times while playing the whole game at first base. The NightOwls' other all-stars also made an impact, as Nevan Noonan hit safely, Riley Paulino scored a run, and Adison Mattix had two strikeouts in one inning of relief pitching.
Last week's all-star game was the WCL's first since 2019 and was broadcast on the MLB Network.
