Sum 41, the legendary pop punk band, are set to make their last ever stop in Victoria at Save on Foods Memorial Centre on Jan. 10. The group announced their impending disbandment in May 2023, and are currently embarking on their final Canadian tour: Tour of the Setting Sum, behind their final album Heaven :x: Hell. For local basketball fans, the UVic Vikes men's and womenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s basketball teams will take on provincial rivals B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·” The Trinity Western University Spartans. The Vikes will face the Spartans in back-to-back contests on Jan. 10 and 11 with games beginning at 6 p.m at UVicB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s CARSA Basketball court. Jan. 10 will be Socks and Crocks night at CARSA and fans are encouraged to dress accordingly. Following that, Jan. 11 is the annual Shoot for the Cure night, where the Vikes will be fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Those looking for a laugh can find Ivan Decker, a Juno award-winning stand-up, performing in Victoria Thursday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 11. Decker brings a sharp-witted brand of comedy featured in YouTube and Netflix specials to Hecklers Bar & Grill starting 8 p.m.
Promising phytophiles can take part in a terrarium workshop with VI plant shops Terrarium Workshop. The hands-on workshop will give participants the opportunity to create their own miniature ecosystem to take home with the help of expert instruction guiding creation and care. Finally, no matter how you spend the weekend, you can wind down on Sunday with a guided bird walk at Outerbridge Park. This free monthly event is held by the Rocky Point Bird Observatory, with no registration required. Birders will gather at the parking lot off Royal Oak Drive before the walk begins at 9 a.m.
