The Sooke Harbour Players is taking its stage outdoors.
This month the company will introducing Sooke audiences to live outdoor theatre: Duo of Delightful Comedies.
B次元官网网址淭his is something completely different, but weB次元官网网址檝e seen other examples of outdoor theatre in Greater Victoria, and we know it can work,B次元官网网址 said director Drew Kemp.
One of the challenges of any outdoor production is the sets will be limited, but Sooke Harbour Players president Andrew Connelly is certain the actors in this production are more than able to overcome that hurdle.
B次元官网网址淲e have a cast that manages to set the scenes with their actions and dialogue. They paint the picture just as effectively as any set could do,B次元官网网址 he said.
The company is in rehearsal for a two-play show created by playwright Christopher Durang.
The plays are both comedies that will be performed outdoors on the grounds of the Future Childcare on Sooke Road, next to Saseenos School.
The first of the shows is entitled The ActorB次元官网网址檚 Nightmare.
B次元官网网址淭his is a show about a guy who finds himself in the middle of a play without any recollection of how he got there,B次元官网网址 Donnelly said.
B次元官网网址淗e doesnB次元官网网址檛 know how he got there, doesnB次元官网网址檛 remember even auditioning for the part or anything about the play.B次元官网网址
That doesnB次元官网网址檛 prevent the stalwart actor from persevering and fluking his way through the production, with hilarious results.
The second of the plays is a parody of Tennessee WilliamsB次元官网网址 Streetcar Named Desire.
Entitled For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls the play puts a new, and decidedly funny, spin on the sensibilities of the deep south.
B次元官网网址淭hese plays are very funny and a perfect way for audiences in Sooke to have a great evening of fun at the theatre while still enjoying SookeB次元官网网址檚 fabulous summer weather,B次元官网网址 Donnelly said.
The shows take place on Aug. 17, 18, 24, and 25 at either 2:30 or 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $5 for youth to $15 for adults and are available at the door or by calling 250-480-9816.
