The Mary Winspear CentreB次元官网网址檚 Bodine Hall is being transformed into an art gallery and Denny Gelinas is getting excited.
As chair of the organizing committee for the Sidney Fine Art Show and Sale, an annual initiative staged by the ArtSea Community Arts Council, Gelinas is overseeing a diverse exhibition featuring nearly 400 pieces of art. He and his team of volunteers are out to ensure the juried works chosen from hundreds of submissions provoke discussion.

B次元官网网址淵ou have these moments of panic once in a while, but weB次元官网网址檙e really an organized committee and we started working on this yearB次元官网网址檚 show last December,B次元官网网址� he says. B次元官网网址淎fter the show finishes, weB次元官网网址檙e going to meet in December and go through what worked, what didnB次元官网网址檛 work B次元官网网址� and we take notes as we go along.B次元官网网址�
The 17th annual show and sale, running Oct. 18-20, includes paintings, sculptures, photographs and more. Gelinas says the range of artists involved makes for B次元官网网址渁 bit of everythingB次元官网网址� at the event.

For some participants, the Sidney Fine Art Show is the first time their work is publicly displayed.
B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 a wonderful way to get some acknowledgement of you as an artist, and a celebration, and I think itB次元官网网址檚 one of the things thatB次元官网网址檚 good about the show,B次元官网网址� Gelinas says.
Patrons and sponsors of the event are invited to a special photography presentation and show preview on Thursday, Oct. 17. Victoria arts promoter Joan Athey is presenting a series by the late Gerry Dieter documenting John Lennon and Yoko OnoB次元官网网址檚 week-long Bed-In for Peace in Montreal. As well, Athey will talk about the lessons sheB次元官网网址檚 learned and knowledge of photography.
Gelinas says placing photography in the spotlight is B次元官网网址渇abulous.B次元官网网址�
B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 the first time weB次元官网网址檝e actually acknowledged photography in this way up front,B次元官网网址� he notes. B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 kind of an educational experience too, for I think many people in the audience wonB次元官网网址檛 be familiar with this proposal,B次元官网网址� he says.
B次元官网网址淎rt is a vehicle for discussion,B次元官网网址� Gelinas adds. B次元官网网址淓verybody has a view on art B次元官网网址� whether itB次元官网网址檚 good or bad art B次元官网网址� and itB次元官网网址檚 nice to have these kinds of discussions and look at the interconnectedness of various art forms.B次元官网网址�
