A weekly dance featuring oldies music is taking over the Royal Canadian LegionB次元官网网址檚 Prince Edward Branch # 91 in Langford every Saturday in January.
Ken Himes, a.k.a. DJ Hurricane, said itB次元官网网址檚 an opportunity for people interested in having a little weekend fun closer to home rather than making the trek downtown.
B次元官网网址淟angford is a prosperous growing community; it has everything going for it,B次元官网网址 he said. B次元官网网址淚 want to have (more) night life, I want something where people can go out and enjoy a safe night B次元官网网址 ItB次元官网网址檚 bringing a little energy from downtown to the Goldstream area.B次元官网网址
Himes, who has spent time as a sports announcer, a ring announcer and a DJ, but is now on disability, was a military reserve member for many years. As such, hosting a regular dance at the Legion is important to him, he said. He is training a protege to take the reins of the free event, which he describes as not your typical 1950s music sock hop, but a trip down musical memory lane from the B次元官网网址70s, B次元官网网址80s and more.
B次元官网网址淧eople love the B次元官网网址80s, the music from 30 to 35 years ago. Everyone, even the young people, know (the songs),B次元官网网址 Himes said. B次元官网网址淟angford is alive with the sound of great music again, (and itB次元官网网址檚) a safe alternative to going downtown.B次元官网网址
Different themes and local comedy acts will be part of the fun throughout the night for these licensed events, said Himes, calling it a good time for adults of all ages.
B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 the music you loved growing up. IB次元官网网址檓 getting back to what I love, putting smiles on peoples faces, for people who like to have a good time.
B次元官网网址淧eople are looking forward to something like this; itB次元官网网址檚 been a long time coming and will be a consistent place to go on Saturday nights. We wonB次元官网网址檛 be playing any Katy Perry or Britney Spears, the music will have meaning and people will be dancing.B次元官网网址
The licensed dances are free to enter and start at 7 p.m. beginning Jan. 3 at the Legion, 761 Station Ave.
