While heB次元官网网址檚 not able to perform on stage as often right now, people are still hearing Jesse RoperB次元官网网址檚 music.

The Metchosin-based singer/songwriter made a long-awaited breakthrough into TV recently, first having a clip of his song Horizons played on NetflixB次元官网网址檚 teen drama Riverdale. Shortly after, an excerpt from Brightside was heard on the CBS remake of The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah.

RoperB次元官网网址檚 manager has been working on getting his songs into TV shows for years. It was a long process, but he eventually signed a deal with Zinc Music, a company in the U.S. that focuses on getting songs played in TV shows.

B次元官网网址淭o travel in Canada youB次元官网网址檝e got huge mileage in between towns. So I lose money every time, like IB次元官网网址檝e never made money on the tour,B次元官网网址� Roper said. B次元官网网址淪o this stuff puts me on tour.B次元官网网址�

Making inroads into TV has helped during the pandemic, Roper said, not only as a resume booster but to help financially. B次元官网网址淎 lot of the money is in this kind of stuff.B次元官网网址�

ItB次元官网网址檚 been a long wait for this breakthrough, as a number of similar deals for songs in TV shows and commercials have fallen through, he said.

B次元官网网址淥ne commercial I had was going to play for a year throughout North America and I was like, B次元官网网址淥h my god, this is gonna change my life,B次元官网网址� he said. B次元官网网址淎fter a month, I was like, B次元官网网址極kay, no big deal. ItB次元官网网址檚 probably just delayed a little bit.B次元官网网址� And then two months later, itB次元官网网址檚 still not out. Three months later, itB次元官网网址檚 still not out. Six months later I phone my manager and he says, B次元官网网址楾hey just notified me and gave it to someone else.B次元官网网址� That kind of shit happens all the time.B次元官网网址�

Roper says the process is out of his hands and he gets a call when a deal is finalized and tries to catch the clip. Otherwise he just focuses on producing the music. His new album, finished before the pandemic, is currently being released song by song. The latest release, B次元官网网址淎nother Day Down,B次元官网网址� was released Oct. 21.

Getting songs on TV is a good avenue for RoperB次元官网网址檚 future, and takes away some of the financial risk of scheduling tours.

B次元官网网址淔or the little guys in the music industry, like myself, looking too far ahead is tough because itB次元官网网址檚 a big gamble and you can lose a lot of money,B次元官网网址� he said.

Opportunities for performing shows have been scarce, but Roper said thatB次元官网网址檚 making them all the sweeter.

B次元官网网址淢aybe itB次元官网网址檚 just been a while since IB次元官网网址檝e played, but I feel like IB次元官网网址檓 enjoying it more than I ever did,B次元官网网址� he said. B次元官网网址淥r more than I have in years, just not taking it for granted and just trying to squeeze all the juice out of those lemons when IB次元官网网址檓 up on stage.B次元官网网址�
