Local writer brings home Giller Prize

Esi Edugyan of Victoria wins Giller Prize for Half-Blood Blues

Colwood author Esi Edugyan won one of CanadaB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s most prestigious literary awards Tuesday night.

Edugyan picked up the Scotiabank Giller Prize and $50,000 for her novel, Half-Blood Blues, about a group of black jazz musicians trying to survive in Europe during the Second World War.

Half-Blood Blues was also shortlisted for a Man Booker Prize and a Rogers WritersB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ Trust Fiction Prize. It is also nominated for a Governor GeneralB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Literacy Award, which will be announced Tuesday (Nov. 15).
