Victoria Baroque is inviting the city into the world of baroque music with David Greenberg who is bringing two unique opportunities to experience the classic art to Victoria.

Greenberg, a baroque violinist and Cape Breton fiddler, will be performing two shows in Victoria on Jan. 15 and 17. The shows offer two distinct opportunities for live music fans to experience his performances with shows at HermannBԪַs Jazz Club and St. John the Divine Anglican Church.

For over 30 years, Greenberg has honed his skills and worked as a baroque violinist and Cape Breton fiddler, enjoying a double career as a proponent of the two distinct styles. His exploration of these two genres has made him a standout interpreter of the music of 18th-century Scotland. His career has taken him around the world from his time studying the styles at Indiana University, to stints working in Australia, New Zealand, and Western Europe. He has contributed to the Canadian classical music canon as a guest soloist/director with the Calgary Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Nova Scotia

"What I especially love about these baroque-folk pairings are the surprising things that one genre learns from the otherBԪַthe music's emotional range increases dramatically. Their combined story feels spontaneous and capable of expressing both profound melancholy and wild joy,BԪַ said Greenberg.

In his first performance, part of Victoria Baroque's Bach in the Pub series, Greenberg will be joined at HermannBԪַs Jazz Club by Kirsty Money on the nyckelharpa, a Swedish keyed fiddle. The pair will perform traditional Celtic and Scandinavian music on Wednesday, Jan. 15 beginning at 7 p.m.

In his second performance, Victoria Baroque Presents Phantasm, Greenberg will take the stage at St. John the Divine to lead the Victoria Baroque Orchestra. Here, he will guide the orchestra through a program inspired by the night, dreams, and the land of faerie. The performance will be held on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Victoria Baroque website, .
