Belmont Secondary SchoolB次元官网网址檚 music department is in full swing with rehearsals, sound checks and stage preps leading up to the annual Year End Concert June 8.

For some of the schoolB次元官网网址檚 bands, it will mark the first time this year they will perform in front of friends and family. For some students, it will be the last time they get to perform before graduating and moving on to adulthood.

Needless to say, the pressure is on, and the excitement is building.

B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 going to be really fun because some of the bands only came about in second semester, like jazz band,B次元官网网址 said Grade 12 student Jacey Sharpe. B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 going to be really nice because there are some people in that band who have never played for their parents and friends, so they will get to show off finally in the concert.B次元官网网址

Sharpe said all of the bands performing at the concert B次元官网网址 which range from jazz to choir, classical to student-led bands which can feature a mix of just about every genre B次元官网网址 have been practising daily for the past few months leading up to the concert.

B次元官网网址淚B次元官网网址檓 excited for the student-led groups,B次元官网网址 said Teaghan Dillon, who is in Grade 11. B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 really fun doing those smaller pieces.B次元官网网址

For some of the choirs, that practise has even included learning different languages for the performance.

B次元官网网址淲e donB次元官网网址檛 know our full set yet, but we will be doing French, English and Ojibwe,B次元官网网址 said Katelyn Vandermark, who is in Grade 12. B次元官网网址淚t took a lot of work and growth to get to the point we are at now, and IB次元官网网址檓 really excited to be able to show that to people and do those more difficult pieces and songs.B次元官网网址

Grade 11 student Ash Andia said the concert will also present an opportunity to refine some performances which may not have gone the way they had hoped while performing at festivals and competitions earlier in the school year.

B次元官网网址淔or Senior Winds, IB次元官网网址檓 looking forward to seeing how we perform this new repertoire because it hasnB次元官网网址檛 been going the smoothest, but we have made a lot of progress. IB次元官网网址檓 excited we get to polish it up and sound really good.B次元官网网址

While the end of year concert is mainly about the students, music teacher Izzy Spencer said she and her colleagues, as well as the wider school community, get a lot out of it as well.

B次元官网网址淭his is my first time being at a school for an entire year, so IB次元官网网址檝e really been able to see them grow and put in tons of hard work. The cool part, I think, is we have performed a lot at festivals and elsewhere in the community, but this will be a time for us to perform for our community, the family and friends, and if itB次元官网网址檚 anything like the winter concert, the audience will be amazing and it will be a fun time for sure.B次元官网网址

Admission for the concert is by donation, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the music starting at 7 p.m. As with other recent concerts at the school, the show will be split between two different performance areas.

Part of the concert will take place in the school theatre, then following an intermission, it will transition upstairs to the library to provide each genre of music its ideal setting.
