Nationally lauded playwright and writer Carmen Aguirre is featured in a free lecture on memoir and satire writing at the University of VictoriaB次元官网网址檚 Phoenix Theatre and online Feb. 17.
The 2020 Siminovitch Prize in Theatre finalist and graduate of Langara CollegeB次元官网网址檚 Studio 58 theatre school will read from her new play The Consent Club and from her best-selling memoir Mexican Hooker #1: Art, Love, and Forgiveness After Trauma.
AguirreB次元官网网址檚 memoir is a sequel to Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter, an international bestseller and CBC Canada Reads award winner, which provides a firsthand account of a young revolutionary living in dictator Augusto PinochetB次元官网网址檚 Chile in the 1980s.
The Thursday lecture, set to start at 12:30 p.m., will be available both in-person and remotely and attendees are advised the readings will contain subject matter related to sexual assault. The readings will be followed by a question and answer period. Registration can be done online at uvic.ca/events.
The lecture is part of the Orion Series in Fine Arts, which aims to bring distinguished visitors from other parts of Canada B次元官网网址� and the world B次元官网网址� to the University of VictoriaB次元官网网址檚 Faculty of Fine Arts.
