School parent advisory councils are always looking for ways to help raise money for worthwhile projects benefitting children.
The folks at Westshore Town Centre have once again dedicated the month of April to helping in that regard, using their Coins for Kids contest.
The contest sees elementary schools in the Sooke School District vie for points through shopping at the mallB次元官网网址檚 merchants. Every dollar spent B次元官网网址 receipts are submitted in a draw barrel near Coast Capital Savings B次元官网网址 equates to a point for the indicated school. This year, the school earning the most points by May 1 receives a $2,000 grant, while the runner-up is given a $1,500 grant. A random draw will see a third school receive $1,000.
B次元官网网址淭he incredible support from Coins for Kids has helped our PAC at David Cameron elementary offer bursaries, purchase an adaptable bicycle for physically challenged students B次元官网网址 fund educational speakers, buy library books and assist the music program,B次元官网网址 said Jennifer Hoenen, the schoolB次元官网网址檚 PAC treasurer.
The mall has continued its efforts to help the Goldstream Food Bank, by awarding 500 bonus points for every bag of non-perishable food items brought in by schools. A $500 gift card sponsored by Fairway Market will be awarded to the school that raises the most points in food donations.
B次元官网网址淲e felt the Food Bank initiative was an important addition to our campaign and Fairway Market has been a huge supporter by sponsoring a prize and selling pre-made bags at each till,B次元官网网址 said Carlene McDonald, marketing manager for Westshore Town Centre. Collection bins and donation bags are located near Fairway Market and Centre Court.
