The West Shore RCMP is on the lookout for deserving students. The detachmentB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Community Policing Advisory Committee (CPAC) is offering two scholarships for graduating students to assist with furthering their education.
The first up for grabs is a $500 scholarship, which applies to students pursuing fields of study that include, but are not limited to, policing, nursing, social work, justice studies, firefighting and counselling.
West Shore RCMP Const. Cole Brewer said the CPACB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s decision to make scholarships available will create new opportunities for youth within the community to get a head start on post-secondary education.
The other is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to a student in recognition of their ability to overcome adversity and can be applied for on behalf of a deserving student.
These scholarships are open to West Shore residents and must be received by April 1.
The money for the scholarships comes from a percentage of the fees the local detachment charges for background checks.
