An acclimation of the mayor and council of an entire municipality, the opening of the West Shore Child, Youth and Family Centre, the stench of a public works compost operation forcing a resident to drain her swimming pool, a 14-year-old Colwood girl facing drug charges and more are among the headlines pulled from the files of past Goldstream B次元官网网址 Gazette articles going back three decades.

2005

There will be no voting for politicians in the upcoming municipal election in View Royal.

Incumbent mayor Graham Hill will be acclaimed to a second term while all four candidates nominated, from incumbents John Rogers, Geri Anderson and David Screech and paramedic Andrew Britton will be acclaimed.

The only thing View Royal voters can vote on in this election is a referendum question on whether they want to accept secondary suites in View Royal.

The West Shore Child, Youth and Family Centre opening its doors in the West Shore.

The 37,000 square-foot facility is a one-stop location for 11 social services organizations including the Ministry of Children and Family Development, The Vancouver Island Health Authority and the Pacific Centre Family Services Association.

Colwood resident Teresa Collins, emptied her backyard swimming pool this year because the stench of the ColwoodB次元官网网址檚 public works compost operation is keeping her indoors.

She has been complaining to council for six years saying the operation makes her nauseous  and keeps her from any outdoor activities including swimming and gardening, which she loves to do but feels she canB次元官网网址檛 because of the odour.

The Sooke school district is cleaning up its act after violating 22 regulations governing the storage of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBB次元官网网址檚) said the districts facilities supervisor Jim Nathorst.

The school district was caught running afoul of  rules during a Environment Canada inspection.

Infractions included not storying ballasts, containing the chemical compound in its capacitors, in drums, housing flammable materials in the PCB storage facility and drums not being stored on movable pallets.

A 14-year-old Colwood girl will appear in court to face drug charges. The adolescent was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Taken into custody, she was later let go with orders specifying she could not go to LangfordB次元官网网址檚 Kinsmen or Centennial Parks, leave school property on days she goes to school and to abstain from drinking alcohol or consuming street drugs and is bound by a court-ordered curfew.

Rocks taken from a Trans-Canada Highway construction zone had JJM Construction LtdB次元官网网址檚 area manager steaming.

He said blast rock is taken by people wanting to make flower beds or landscape their property claiming the thefts have added up to approximately $70,000 of rock stolen.

Sooke teachers vote today on whether to being an all out work-to-rule campaign.

The move comes after the School District 62 boardB次元官网网址檚 rejection of a tentative agreement between the Sooke Teachers Association, the boards bargaining committee and Ed Lien, the mediator appointed by compensation stabilization commissioner Ed Peck.

Saanich firefighter, and Colwood fire trustee Ed Bradford swept to victory taking 684 of 1292 total votes cast in the by-election to replace Conrad Adams who resigned from Colwood council.

A student walk out meant to protest the teacher school dispute was narrowly averted at Edward Milne secondary school.

Upset over announced escalation of the teachers work-to-rule campaign and the potential effects on student activities, students discussed a full-scale lockout.

Cooler heads prevailed when members of student council persuaded students to return to their classrooms.
