The owner of a dog that killed a fawn at Esquimalt Lagoon may face further fines. CRD animal control was flagged down by a man trying to use a slingshot to subdue a Rottweiler as it attacked. One witness said the dog appeared to be foaming at the mouth before it jumped into the lagoon and swam away. The fawn succumbed to a broken neck, puncture wounds and a deep gash in the head that exposed brain matter.

The District of Highlands tests two water samples from Earsman Creek for fecal and non-fecal coliform bacteria, after a horse becomes extremely sick over the Christmas season. Owner Jennifer Sutton noticed the animal had severe diarrhea and refused to eat or drink and feared for the life of her 19-year-old retired standardbred racehorse, which had preferred drinking from the creek instead of a bucket.
And, an Anglican church group in Colwood joins the fight against water privatization. Ken Gray, rector of the Church of the Advent, says, B次元官网网址淲ater is a gift of God and should not be commodified.B次元官网网址 The church group is among those warning that water privatization puts public access at risk and advocates calling on the federal government to help prevent a world-wide water crisis.

A man is found guilty of driving without due care and attention, following a crash that saw his truck veer into oncoming traffic and collide with a Chevy Van in the 4000-block of Sooke Road. He is fined $500 and has his drivers license suspended for three months, but his former girlfriend, 16-year-old Sooke resident, sustains a brain stem injury and spends more than six months in a coma. She continues extensive physical, occupational and speech therapy.

One police officer is injured and two police cruisers are damaged in a high-speed chase involving Esquimalt and Colwood police. Speeds of up to 115 kilometres an hour are reached during the chase, which lasts 15 minutes and ends with the arrest of a Colwood man. At one point the chased driver slams on his brakes, reverses direction and smashes into an unmarked Colwood police car. The chase ends when the driver collides with an Esquimalt cruiser near the Gorge Hotel coffee shop.

Two 18 year olds on probation for other offences are held in custody after a Jan. 4 break-in of Capital Market, which saw someone enter through a roof window. One youth was found hiding underneath the stairs. They had $270 in cash and 10 cartons of cigarettes.
And, the Western Communities welcome nine-pound, four-ounce Reid Robinson Pirie, the areaB次元官网网址檚 first baby of 1986, born at 7:59 a.m. on Jan. 1. Reid and his mother are showered with donated gifts, including a halibut dinner, a gas coupon, a case of Pampers, a case of Similac and Kodak film to take photographs of the child.
